Fannie Lou Hamer’s America is an educational program with the mission of preserving the legacy of one of the most influential activists of the Civil Rights Movement, Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer.

The centerpiece of our project is the award-winning documentary that aired on PBS and WORLD Channel in February 2022. That film was produced by Hamer’s niece, Monica Land, and the lead researchers were the foremost Fannie Lou Hamer historians and authors, Drs. Maegan Parker Brooks and Davis Houck.

Since then, our K-12 educational curriculum, Find Your Voice, created by Brooks and Houck, has been our main focus. Fannie Lou Hamer loved young people and we’re continuing her goal of bringing them educational and career opportunities.

Through our non-profit fiscal sponsor, From The Heart Productions, Fannie Lou Hamer’s America relies on supporters like you to help fund our young filmmakers’ workshop and our educational website dedicated to Fannie Lou Hamer.

Your tax-deductible gift will support the creativity of high school students in the Mississippi Delta through our free, summer STEM program, the Sunflower County Film Academy. And our website, that provides research information on Fannie Lou Hamer and includes a virtual museum and upcoming library.

Fannie Lou Hamer loved the Delta and worked tirelessly to improve, empower, educate, and uplift the residents of that region. Your donation can help us preserve her words for researchers, students and future generations, as well as to help them create opportunities to express themselves freely through the Arts.

Depends on a few factors like if you received a reward in exchange for the donation and the value of your donation above that rewards cost, etc. You may contact the nonprofit you donated to directly to receive information on whether or not your donation is tax deductible. Nonetheless, the emailed receipts you will receive for your donation is the documentation you need to make it tax deductible.
